Description

The proliferation of artificial intelligence (“AI”) applications leveraging, and the explosion of use cases for, deep-learning models that can generate high-quality text, images, and other content (“generative AI”) is sending shock waves through the IP world. Chatbots like Open-AI’s ChatGPT or Google’s Gemini and image generation tools such as Stability AI’s Stable Diffusion and the self-titled program from Mid-journey are creating novel problems in IP as plaintiffs, defendants, and the courts struggle to freshly apply old categories of copyright, trademark, and patent law to these new technologies. This program will provide a brief overview of copyright and patent law and explore recent litigation moving through the US courts.
